Government buildings in Abu Dhabi to install energy-saving tech
The aim is to accelerate the growth of the energy services market in the emirate.
To decrease carbon emissions, over two dozen government buildings in Abu Dhabi, which are over three decades old, will be installed with energy-saving tech. An announcement was made by Abu Dhabi Energy Services (ADES), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), at the World Future Energy Summit.
āThe announcement is the first step in enabling these entities to realize significant power and water savings across their facilities that will reduce their carbon footprints and their utility expenditure, and it will further accelerate the growth of the energy services market in Abu Dhabi,ā said Khalid Mohamed Al Qubaisi, CEO, ADES, in a statement.Ā
ADES provides energy-efficient solutions and tools to the government and private sectors in Abu Dhabi. The new installations will encompass simple fixes to buildingsā interiors, including lighting systems with LED fixtures, installations of motion sensors, and upgrades in chiller units. Since the energy consumption profile will differ for each building, the retrofit plan will vary.Ā
ADES inked agreements with leading government entities, including the Department of Culture and Tourism ā Abu Dhabi (DCT ā Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), and Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) to identify power and water savings opportunities in their facilities and buildings across the emirate.
Under these agreements, ADES will undertake a series of assessments of the power and water consumption across about 34 buildings belonging to DCT, SEHA, UAEU, ESE, and others to achieve tangible savings. These sites include the Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, UAEUās main campus, ten schools under ESE, and the historical and cultural landmark Al Jahili Fort.
