A few cruise ships, with 4000 rooms to accommodate over 9400 people, will be used as hotels during the upcoming World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

The Housing Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has chartered these cruise ships, arriving at the Doha port on November 10 and 14, respectively.

These ships will be used as temporary hotels to accommodate fans visiting the country to watch the games. While one of the ships is ready, the other one is still under construction, and a naming ceremony is scheduled for November 13, before it is ready to host guests.

The fans can choose between traditional and ocean-view cabins, balcony cabins, and luxurious suites. The official website will act as a window for booking everything related to the games – from match tickets, Hayya Card, and even accommodation, including cruise ships, fan villages, hotels, camping accommodation, and other options.

Qatar, which is hosting the gala sporting event in November, expects over a million visitors, including local and international fans, players, family members, officials, staffers, and more, to visit the country during the game.

The country is looking for innovative ways to host many people simultaneously. Apart from the cruise ships mentioned above, people have an option to stay in desert camps, makeshift hotels, or jet out right after the game.

This increased demand has also resulted in a spike in the rental costs in the country. Property owners have reportedly increased the rents to as high as 40% in certain areas, and long-term hotel occupants have been asked to vacate their rooms.
